*Please see updates for most current info.* Thank you all for your generosity and tangible support for Stasi during this unspeakably devastating time. Money raised is still going toward supporting Stasi while she is unable to work and is additionally helping her cover expenses for Fable’s after life care, memorializing, etc.

Below is the original story:

——————

Fable Sage, a spunky 18-month-old, happy, healthy toddler, developed what seemed like a typical cold after Halloween. His pediatrician was contacted when he began projectile vomiting on November 5th and she advised to keep him hydrated and to not worry about a fever until it was 103 or higher. The next day he was lethargic and wouldn’t eat much and in the afternoon spiked a fever of 104.8. He was promptly given another dose of Tylenol and Motrin and rushed to the ER. The ER team stated it was Rhino Entero Virus after a nasal swab test and mom was advised to give Fable Tylenol and Motrin around the clock. They were discharged home. He was lethargic and struggling at home to keep down food and water for another two days and in constant contact with his pediatrician.  At the end of Friday, he started struggling to breathe. So they went back to the children’s emergency room on November 8th.

Saturday, November 9th, he was admitted to PICU on high flow oxygen with a diagnosis of Rhino Entero Virus and Bronchiolitis. He was quickly downgraded to peds floor on wall oxygen but was still struggling to breathe and mom knew something was still very wrong. He began lifting his head up and backwards into hyperextension, gasping for air. A nurse and doctor were alerted by mom. They drew a blood culture and did a chest xray where they found he had a pulmonary edema and severe pneumonia. He got upgraded to PICU again where they finally found he had strep in his bloodstream. By then it was Monday and the antibiotics were too late. His little body fighting the infection so hard caused him to become septic. Fable went into cardiac arrest in the early morning hours on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The providers worked hard for 46 minutes and mom was brought back to say her goodbyes. The amazing medical team working on him that night brought him back and a trauma surgeon came in to perform an emergency laparotomy to decrease pressure off of Fable’s lungs. He is currently on life support. He will have brain damage, the extent is not yet known.

His official diagnoses were: Sepsis, DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation), and an incredibly rare autoimmune disorder triggered by the sepsis called HUS (Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome.) He and his mom have a long road ahead. His life is forever changed. Stasi’s life forever changed.

If you know them, or are touched by their evolving story and have been wondering, “How can I help?” Here is a way. Fable’s mom, Anastasia, is single and self-employed. She will have to cover all her normal cost of living including cost of operating her business expenses while not being able to see clients because she is in the hospital by her son’s side. It will take some time to find a new normal and get extra financial support in place while she figures out next steps. Along with thoughts and prayers, let’s show her and Fable some love and support in this tangible way. ❤️‍
