Support Injured Firefighters Fischer and Shaffer
In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 24th Belmont Hills Fire Company Firefighters were dispatched to the Schuylkill Expressway for an accident with injuries. Just as firefighters were preparing to leave the scene, an uninvolved vehicle struck three Belmont Hills Firefighters and a Pennsylvania State Trooper.
Firefighters Alex Fischer and Sam Shaffer are the firefighters that were injured. Both were transported from the scene via medical helicopter and are currently recovering from their injuries at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Firefighters Fischer and Shaffer sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.
Firefighter Shaffer has been very active in firehouse activities for the past three years, he also plays lacrosse at his school and works as a lifeguard. Firefighter Fischer has been one of the fire company's most active members for the past 5 years as well as a member of neighboring Union Fire Association. Firefighter Fischer is a business owner of a landscaping and handyman services company - Fischer’s Home Services.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit both firefighters directly, with contributions split evenly between both.
Firefighter Tom Royds was killed in the incident. A separate fundraiser is established for that cause.
