Support Families After Tragic Loss of Paul and Jeremy

On Friday September 27th after the destruction of Hurricane Helene we got finished cutting trees for our community and over at Jeremy's house for the day. Around 6:30, my best friend Paul Higgins, his wife Kerrie Higgins, their 9 year old Mason and 2 year old Barrett, my other best friend Jeremy Faulkner, his 9 year old Caden, Myself and my 9 year old Blaine rode our 4 wheelers to the property behind mine to check on the destruction over there and at the pond. Paul and Kerrie have been watching over that land for over 15 years. They put a cable up so people would quit dumping on the property. When we pulled up there were two suburbans at the top of the hill and the cable was down. We rode our 4 wheelers down toward the pond when 5 people came walking out of the trail leading to the creek. We asked what they were doing there and they said they had permission to camp from the land owner. We thought it was weird to camp right after the Hurricane but Paul said it was ok. Paul wanted to check and make sure they were alright. We rode down towards their camp around multiple trees when a guy walked up with an AR syle rifle. He was yelling who the hell is on my land. Paul announced it was him. They had acquainted a week or so prior. Paul asked if he would take the rifle back down the hill because we had our kids but he refused. He said he had as much right as us to be there as Paul did. They got verbal then him and Paul got into a scuffle over the gun. At this time a younger guy that was with them camping pulled a .45 and shot Paul multiple times. Jeremy then pulled his 9mm and shot the younger guy who turned and also shot and Jeremy. All of this happened in front of our kids. The guy with the AR was also hit but he left the scene with multiple other people in a black Jeep with green neon's. He went to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.(Edit He is not in custody. The invesigation is on going). Myself and Kerrie were left in the woods with all 3 of them dying. I tried calling 911 but it was down. I got two boys on one 4 wheeler and my son and the baby on the other and rode back home to tell Jeremy's long time girlfriend to call for help. I grabbed my truck and and a chainsaw and my son and we went back. He stayed on the line with police while I cut all the downed trees to get back in to them. When I arrived, all 3 were deceased. Jeremy saved our lives. There is no telling who else could have been killed. Spartanburg County finally showed and we waited until almost 3am before we could go home. I don't know if these men had life insurance or death benefits but they could use all the help they can get! I will personally see that any and all funds get distributed between both families. Please help any way if possible. I know alot of people are already hurting from this Hurricane but this was a very tragic incident. I lost my two best friends but these families lost their fathers and husband's and they need all the help and love they can get right now.
