Support Family Overcome Fire Tragedy
Donation protected
We lost our home on May 9th when our neighbor’s house caught fire. We lived in a two-story duplex with the wall connected so it took only a few minutes for the flames to reach our home.
Luckily, the only 2 family members who were home had to evacuate, grabbing our senior pets and running out of the house.
During all this, we could not find our smallest dog, Hannah, for 6 long hours and her tracking tag had disconnected during the fire. One of my brothers (who has just finished his last round of chemo for his cancer) ran back into the burning house 4-5 times to look for her, before he was no longer allowed back in once firefighters arrived. We all assumed the worst but when we finally were allowed to reenter the home hours after the fire, she came out of hiding from under a bed where she found us. Fortunately, she was, seemingly, unharmed besides having wet paws and covered in soot and dust from the ceiling collapsing but we were just so relieved to have her back in our arms.
A lot of our clothes, food, personal belongings and medications were either lost in the fire, were water damaged due to the water used to put the fire out, and/or ceilings collapsing on them.
Some family members lost all of their belongings and necessities from the upstairs, which completely burned.
We are currently struggling with the debt we have accumulated from having to sleep in hotels for weeks until we found a home to move into, vet bills and animal care, repurchasing necessities, food, etc.
We are simply looking for any help with getting us back on our feet and stable again.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated and if anybody has any home furniture that they can spare we would gratefully accept seeing as we have no furniture.
