Support Fiki and Kaila Get Through Housing Crisis

Our dear friend Kaila and her roommate Fiki have struggled with an unfortunate housing crisis this past week. The ceiling in their apartment fell into their home and has ruined many of their personal belongings. Unfortunately, the ceiling falling was followed by a confirmation of asbestos contamination in their apartment. The toxins make it hazardous for Kaila and Fiki, and their puppy Dior to stay and enter their apartment for their belongings.

 

This housing tragedy has put Kaila and Fiki in a housing limbo. They are being forced to stay at a hotel. It is unknown when the ceiling will be repaired and how/if their landlord will take responsibility to cover their damaged belongings. Kaila and Fiki were in the house when the ceiling fell and are physically okay, but are experiencing emotional stress navigating all of this.

 

If you know Kaila, you know that she would be willing to drop anything to support anyone in distress. Kaila is a fantastic community organizer who has helped many families impacted by the criminal punishment system. She is a treasure in our community and needs us. It’s time that we show up for her and Fiki during this time of need.
