Begun in September of 2019, Final Exam Horror Trivia is a public social event in New York City's historic West Village that brings together 100+ members of the horror and LGBTQ+ communities once a month for an evening of camaraderie, friendship, and creepy movie trivia.
The brainchild of filmmaker Ted Geoghegan and journalist Michael Gingold, Final Exam creates a regular space where horror experts, fans, and creators can gather to embrace all that they love, regardless of age, sex, race, orientation, and/or identity. New York's close-knit horror community proves that it's absolutely fine to love Freddy and Jason.
Final Exam is and always will be free to the public. Its constant venue is Rockbar, a classic, well-worn West Village gay bar that welcomes everyone with open arms. Prizes, which are offered at every single event, are graciously donated by amazing sponsors like Fangoria Magazine, IFC Midnight, Cavity Colors, Pixel Elixir, Blue Underground, Synapse Films, and Severin Films.
Final Exam's two hosts volunteer a massive amount of time and money every month to make this special event happen.
Every edition of Final Exam Horror Trivia features five rounds of meticulously-researched terror trivia, plus a detailed handout round, which is given to all attendees. Creating these rounds from scratch - and creating the detailed slides required for a large trivia event - takes Final Exam's hosts over 50 hours every month.
On top of the time spent, there are numerous costs associated with the event's printouts, writing utensils, and clipboards. When prize sponsors are unavailable, the event's hosts purchase/provide prizes.
This GoFundMe exists to supplement the ample time and money spent to make this event happen.
Whether you're a regular attendee or you've only heard of Final Exam by word-of-mouth, we hope that you'll consider donating to keep this special community event alive. It deeply enriches the lives of New York's beautiful outsiders, and gives everyone, regardless of their taste in entertainment or who they love, a place to be themselves for a few precious hours every month.
