Florida Players is a historic theatrical producing organization at the University of Florida with a mission to educate the next generation of theatre-makers, engage the hearts and minds of our Gainesville community with meaningful productions, and empower theatre artists of all disciplines to exercise their diverse voices through hands-on experiences. Founded in 1929, Florida Players predates the establishment of the School of Theater and Dance within the College of the Arts at the University of Florida and is widely credited as the oldest student organization on campus. The study of theatre at the University of Florida owes its origin to Florida Players. In 2022, Florida Players is seeking funds to support our 93rd season of plays, student-written new work, and musicals due to an underfunding crisis brought about by Student Government’s budgetary restrictions. While Florida Players typically operates with a semesterly budget close to $20,000, our Fall 2022 budget award was only $500.00. We encourage you to support the continuation of Florida Players’ legacy of excellence in theatrical producing, achievements in creativity, and family for the theatre-making and theatre-loving community at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Below is an itemized list of Florida Players’ Fall season budgetary needs:
Cost of rights to produce two Fall plays = $559.40
Cost of theater rental = $7,149.50
Cost estimate of design budgets = $3,000
Cost estimate of educational workshops, social events, and additional programming = $2,000
Total Fall season fundraising goal = $20,000
If you are unable to donate at this time, Florida Players would appreciate your support in sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, co-workers, and communities. Thank you for your support of the arts at the University of Florida, and as always, GO GATORS!
