Support for a farewell and justice for our dad, Chris Barker

On the morning of Thursday 21st of March, our dad, Chris, was cycling in the Indian Pacific Wheel Ride when he was fatally struck in a hit-and-run involving a road train.

The circumstances around his death are still under investigation, which means there are a lot of details that we’re not able to share with you right now. What we can share is that the driver is currently in custody and has been charged with manslaughter. This has added a layer of complexity to the immense pain we are already feeling.

Due to the coronial investigation, Dad is currently held up in Western Australia, and we are waiting to find out when we’ll be able to travel to Perth to see him before bringing him home to South Australia.

As we navigate this difficult time, we find ourselves in a position where we need to cover unforeseen financial costs that come with such a sudden loss. We’re hoping to give Dad the send-off he deserves and celebrate his life with all who loved him. Anything over and above the necessary funeral costs and legal fees, we will use towards fighting for justice for our dad.
