Support Altruistic Kidney Donation
Donation protected
Dear friends,
My best friend from Junior High School’s kidneys have begun to fail. She began life with kidney disease and through good self-care has managed to remain healthy until now. Barbie’s an amazing human being. I’m in awe of her talent as a musician and artist, her healing abilities as an occupational therapist, her brave and loving choice to be a single mom and mostly her kind and loving friendship. Here is a link to a letter from Barbie's daughter as well as some additional information on Kidney Donation. Barbie's Kidney Quest
Fortunately, another close friend has offered to donate his kidney.
Jan’s willingness to donate his kidney is a godsend. I know many of us struggle with such an altruistic offering. And many of us are ineligible to give such a life sustaining gift. Jan is also an amazing person who works with the Nonviolent Peaceforce, which places civilians in conflict regions around the world to protect other civilians. He has been a peace activist and war-tax resister for the last 30 odd years. Through the years he’s offered himself as a model mugger for women learning to defend themselves against the threat of attack as well as with perpetrators of violence.
I hope that some of us will be inspired by Jan’s gift to become a kidney donor.
Meanwhile, Jan’s kidney was not an exact match for Barbie, but he was willing to donate into a pool on her behalf. This means that some lucky person will receive Jan’s kidney and Barbie will become eligible for a kidney from this pool of living donors; hopefully a match will be found for her soon.
I’m attaching information about kidney donation in general and John Oliver’s informative video on dialysis and the importance of live kidney donation. John Oliver on Dialysis from Last Week Tonight
This is a fundraiser to support Jan Passion for the expenses he will incur from loss of work and for travel expenses for the myriad of tests to prove him eligible.
Please give what you can.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely,
Michelle Lefkowitz
