Hi! That nice lady there is my mother, Gwen. She's a good woman, 83 years old, and currently suffering from mid to late-stage dementia consistent with Alzheimer's.
And I'm her son, Joe. Over the past few years since her diagnosis I've taken on more and more responsibilities as her abilities have diminished. We have no close family or friends in the vicinity, so I pretty much take care of her 24/7, in addition to my job, our house, and our old dog Betty White.
It's hard. I've been partly supporting us with my Patreon campaign. Speaking of which, I'll welcome any new customers! Like urban fantasy? Check out Witch Warp, my online comic!
But to the point, money's gotten tighter and tighter. Living in New York State is expensive, and I can't consider selling our home of 30 years. I doubt Mom could bear the stress of relocating.
I'm trying to become a paid caregiver to alleviate our situation, but at the moment our finances have been shaved down to the wire. Our credit cards are almost maxed out.
Meanwhile, the school tax in our area is over $7,800 in October, and community Medicaid has a "spend down requirement" upwards of $560.
As I see it, if we could raise at least $6,000 then we'll probably be able to squeak by long enough to get on more stable footing.
Any help would be more than appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to listen.
