Hello UMass Hockey and Northfield Mount Hermon Families:
I'm reaching out to let you know that we are kicking off a campaign to help Pete Stoneham and his family, and we need your help!
Our friend and longtime UMass Hockey and NMH Equipment Manager, Pete Stoneham was diagnosed in December 2022 with Early-Onset Dementia. Symptoms first appeared a few years ago. As the illness progressed, Pete had to leave his job last year at the Northfield Mount Hermon School. His condition requires a significant amount of travel to doctor appointments, medicines, therapies, and in-home care. Pete is facing this challenge with his usual good nature and a fair amount of his classic ironic humor.
As this disease progresses, and it takes away his ability to be independent at home, this money will go to support increased in-home care and his need for long-term care.
For those of you reading this who might not personally know "Stoney," he joined the UMass hockey staff in 1997, working for Coaches Joe Mallen and Toot Cahoon over nine seasons. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities for the team, Pete and his wife Barb were an integral part of the game day management of the Pond Club hospitality room for many years. For those of you who played when he was at UMass, you know his energy and positive disposition were a bright constant for the program.
Over his 16 years at NMH, Stoney managed the cage and the school's athletic teams, supporting over 60 coaches and teams each year. During that time, the cage became a place where many student-athletes went to take a break from classes and practices.
Thank You for being as generous as you can in supporting our friend and teammate!
