Help Suffs’ Ada Westfall Get Life-Affirming Surgery
Donation protected
Dear friends, allies, and supporters,
My name is Al Bailin, and I am reaching out on behalf of my beautiful girlfriend Ada Westfall, whose GoFundMe account I’ve taken over for this fundraiser.
Ada is a 37-year-old trans woman, gifted artist, and beloved member of the NYC theater and music communities. She has touched countless lives as a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and actor, supporting her fellow artists and generously helping others achieve their artistic goals. She is currently acting in the Tony-winning and Grammy-nominated Suffs on Broadway and is a beacon of hope and positivity for other trans folks who are eager to follow her lead. Ada’s artistry and authenticity have long inspired us all, but now she really needs our support.
We need to raise $47,000 to cover the many costs associated with her gender-affirming GRS (bottom) surgery which is set to take place early next year on January 14.
The looming anti-LGBTQ political landscape has only heightened the urgency of securing the care she needs before it becomes even more difficult for trans individuals to access such critical procedures, which may begin happening as soon as January 20th when our newly elected administration takes office. After delaying her surgery twice to be in Suffs, my girlfriend is determined to move forward with this long-overdue step in her journey.
Why this matters:
As Ada’s partner, it is clear to me this surgery is not just a medical procedure; it’s an affirmation of her identity and an essential step toward living fully as herself. Like so many trans individuals, she faces systemic barriers to accessing the healthcare she needs. The financial burden of gender-affirming surgery and its associated costs is immense, and insurance coverage is quite limited. Beyond the financial hurdles, the mental strain of repeatedly postponing this essential procedure has deeply affected her well-being, leaving her feeling depressed, isolated and disheartened. This surgery represents hope, healing, and the chance to finally feel at home in her body. My girlfriend has given so much of herself to the world through her art, her music, and her advocacy. Now, it’s our turn to give back.
Your donations will help Ada cover:
Surgery Costs ($30,000) - gender-affirming surgery is the cornerstone of this fundraiser
Pre- and Post-Surgical Care ($5,500) - including hair removal, physical therapy, and follow-ups
Travel and Accommodation ($3,500) - staying close to the clinic (located in Pennsylvania) is essential for her recovery and required by the surgeon
Living Expenses ($8,000) - rent and essential costs during her three-month recovery period when she’ll be unable to work
(If we are so lucky as to exceed our goal, the money will be donated to charities focused on helping trans folks, as well as directly to trans artists in our community.)
Every dollar counts. No amount is too small. If you’re unable to donate, please share this campaign with your networks. Ada’s community is comprised of countless friends, fans and fellow artists, and together we can help her access the care she so deeply needs and deserves.
My partner has spent her life bringing joy, connection, and authenticity to others. Here is an opportunity to lift her out of this difficult chapter and provide her with the care she needs to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally. Let’s show Ada the love and support she’s shown so many of us.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with me in supporting the person I love most during this pivotal moment in her life.
With gratitude and hope,
Al
