Campaign to free Agba Jalingo
Donation protected
Comrade Agba Jalingo, the publisher of CrossRiverWatch (www.crossriverwatch.com) was arrested in Lagos on Thursday, August 22, 2019. He was thereafter transported to Calabar by road on Saturday, August 24, 2019 and has since been in police detention.
It is difficult to disconnect Agba’s arrest and continued detention from the articles he has written in recent times demanding better financial accountability from the government of Cross River State. Agba’s articles seem to have touched a raw nerve of the governor, Senator Ben Ayade who took out time during a recent public event to disparage Agba and his articles.
I have launched this campaign in an effort to raise funds to support Agba Jalingo. By demanding better financial accountability of the government, Agba is simply serving the interest of the common Cross Riverian. Better accountability will translate to better governance.
I therefore call on all lovers of transparency, accountability and a free press to support this cause by donating to this fund.
Thanks for your support,
Iso Bassey
