Support for Alan Thorgerson's Final Wishes

On April 25, 2024, I received a call that my brother, Alan Thorgerson, passed away in a fire at his home. The fire investigator stated that Alan had called 911 that afternoon asking for the fire department to come to the home right away. Based on their findings and investigation, Alan was walking to the back exit door when he fell and/or was overcome by smoke inhalation. Emergency responders pulled him from the home and tried to resuscitate him for an hour but were unsuccessful.

As a young boy, Alan loved to go fishing with our dad. After high school, Alan had a life-long career as a long-haul truck driver. He loved the “freedom of the road”, seeing new places, and meeting new people. My brother was a lifetime bachelor and had no children. We lost our mother in 2020 and our father in 2022. I am his only remaining sibling, but he loved my family as his own. Alan loved our daughter, Addy, more than anyone. He always told her to “never grow up”! Alan spoke with Addy often about her dreams, her education, and activities. He joked with her often and loved to make people laugh, especially her! Our family was small but strong and caring! Alan lived 13 hours from us but we both took time over the years to visit with each other often and stayed in touch by phone frequently. Alan was a loving brother and a proud and supportive uncle.

Our family traveled to Alan’s residence the day after his passing to collect the few personal keepsakes that survived. We saw the devastation of the home and where he died. It was a very heartbreaking and unforgettable experience. We want to honor Alan’s wishes following his death as best we can. Alan continues to mean the world to us.
