Support for Alex Munn

Old post is below.

Hi everyone. My name is Alex Munn obv, and I would like to first and foremost  thank everyone who has donated already. Being an amputee has defiantly been challenging physically and financially. I totaled my motorcycle in the accident, and lost my new car I was making payments on because I couldn't afford it anymore as I have been in recovery. I have no transportation and I'm behind rent by 3 months. I am currently working part time but it does not even come close to paying my bills. I am asking the community for help because I am in a very desperate situation to help support my family. I did have a fundraiser at Warhorse Harley Davidson for me but  I have not received any funds for it. It was defiantly the worst fundraiser I've ever been to and will not be going back to that dealership ever again.

I plan on using the funds to pay bills and get me transportation to get to work. It rains sometimes so I get really wet before I even get to work for its a 25 min walk. During this transition I have found out I cannot go back to my original job working on cars professionally or construction for it is very hard to do those jobs with one arm.  I am currently trying to get on disability but it can take up on average 2.5 years which I don't have time for because I'm so far behind rent. I currently work at Publix and Im making 11 an hour part time due to regulations and my back injury that prevents me from working long hours. I want to take some of the money and buy tools and motorcycle projects to flip and sell so I can make extra income. I also want to start a youtube channel for amputee stunt riders to show we can get back on the saddle again and be the best inspiration I can be but I cant do any of that unless I have start up money.

I just want to be the best father I can to my family but I really need a lot of help. I am extremely depressed and stressed out and could use the community's help so I can get back on my two feet so I can be an inspiration to others. Thank you again to everyone who has donated already and everyone who took the time to read this.

Hello,

As you may or may not know, Alex was involved in a motorcycle accident a few weekends ago. He sustained multiple injuries including severe damage to his left arm which resulted in an emergency amputation just below the shoulder. He has had multiple (almost every other day) surgeries to repair and/or clean his injuries, and in once instance, to save his life.

We are hoping to raise money to help Alex and his family supplement lost income and pay for medical expenses while he navigates the transition to a new life.

We know times are tough right now with Covid, but if you are able to contribute, it would be deeply appreciated.

In case you are interested, here is a high-level overview of Alex's injuries:

  -  A large impact tear in his upper left arm that lacerated his brachial and
subclavian arteries (he almost bled out on the side of the road)

  - Damage to his brachial complex, the major network of nerves that run down
     the arm

  - Multiple fractures of the left radial, ulnar and humerus bones

  - Fractures of the T3-T7 vertebrae in his back

  - Multiple fractures in is right foot

  - Fractures in the scapula and clavicle bones

   - And, lots of road rash

   - Miraculously, and thankfully, he did not sustain any spine or head injuries

After he was brought to the hospital, he was immediately rushed into surgery to repair the vascular damage and multiple breaks in his upper and lower arm. His arm was without blood flow for 10.5 hours, and he developed compartment syndrome which resulted in a fasciotomy to relieve the pressure in his arm.

About 4 days post op, he had an arterial rupture in his left arm that caused him to bleed out. He was rushed to the OR where the doctors discovered a smoldering infection that had destroyed tissue and weakened the arteries in his arm. The decision was made to amputate his arm because the damages were too extensive, and even if they had attempted to repair the arteries again, the probability of another rupture was almost certain, which he likely would not have survived.

He is now recovering from his amputation but is still having successive surgeries to slowly close his wound (they have kept it open to prevent excessive swelling). We are hoping the next surgery is the last one but don't know for sure at this point.

Thank you for taking the time to read.
Love and hugs,
Alex and family
