Conquering cancer: a mother's journey of hope and determination.
In January 2023, Amy Zappia (Cain) was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 terminal oesophageal cancer at 36 years of age. Amy and her husband Adrian live in Mildura and have three young children - Freddie (5), Stevie (3) and Lucia (16 months).
After receiving a poor prognosis, Amy has been determined to tackle this diagnosis head on and has amazed us all with her resilience, strength and will to overcome this disease.
The last twelve months have been an exhausting combination of hospital stays, appointments, procedures, six months of chemotherapy, a high dose of radiation therapy and an extensive list of alternative therapies. This is all while Amy and Adrian try to keep life as normal as possible for their young children at home in Mildura.
Recently, Amy has learned that the disease has progressed and 2024 will require a whole new level of fight and determination. Amy is ready to face this challenge and we want to rally around her with our support to help her do just that.
She is exploring what the next steps will be and is considering a range of treatment options both locally and internationally. This fundraiser is an opportunity for us to come together to assist Amy and her family on a practical level with associated medical, travel and other costs so that they can focus on Amy’s health.
Thankyou to everyone willing to share this post or support with a donation. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference to help Amy, Adrian and their family during this fight of a lifetime.
