On October 6th, our dear friend, coach, colleague, and teammate was taken to IU Bloomington Hospital after a week of feeling ill. She was eventually diagnosed with a severe case of West Nile Virus and has spent the last month moving between hospitals and the Bloomington Rehabilitation Center. The virus caused several complications, including effects to her central nervous system. The recovery process is expected to be long and difficult. She is currently back at the Bloomington Rehabilitation Center working to gain strength and stamina with plans to return to her normal life.
Anyone who knows Amy knows the very pure joy of being her friend and her colleague. Her life has been devoted to helping others as an educator and as a positive influence for the teams she has coached. Amy’s selfless nature, positive attitude, and willingness to help anyone are just a few reasons why she is loved by so many.
We do not know how long the recovery process will take, when she will go home, or when she will be able to go back to work. But we do know Amy! We know Amy will fight to overcome this virus with steadfast determination. Please join us in rallying with Amy as she continues to heal physically and emotionally. Amy is a giving person, reluctant to ask for help, so we are asking for her. The medical bills and financial burden will continue to grow and weigh on her mind.
Let’s come together as a community to offer the strength and the resources necessary for her to fight this virus.
