Support for Asher Dale's fight against Cancer

Donation protected
In May, 2020 my daughter, Tacie and her husband Brett began noticing their son, Asher,  (and our adorable Grandson) was all of a sudden having difficulty walking and appeared to have the "shakes". After not being satisfied with the initial Dr. consult in Innisfail, they decided to take him to Red Deer. There he was seen by a Neurologist who diagnosed him with Cerebral Ataxia (a virus attacking his cerebellum). The Neurologist said he was 'over the worst' of the virus and he would be checking in with them by phone every three days. When that failed to happen, Tacie insisted they take Asher to the Children's Hospital  in Calgary. Within two hours Asher was admitted to the Neurological Unit. Doctors there felt  he was not over the worst of the virus, however they would just need to wait it out and time would tell if there was any permanent damage.  The team at the Children's' Hospital performed two Cat Scans, one MRI, one spinal tap, three rounds of bloodwork, one ultrasound and one EEG.  Asher was allowed to return home.

A day and a half later Tacie and Brett received a call from the Doctor saying they needed to get Asher back to the Children's Hospital immediately and to prepare for a stay. That is all they were told.

They say your life can change in the blink of an eye. I am here to tell you that is true.

Tacie and Brett, not even married one year yet, were sat down and told that their 19 month old son, Asher has a tumour above his kidney and yes, it is Cancer.

In addition to that, he has a condition called Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS) which is what is causing his unsteady gait, tremors and 'dancing eye syndrome'.  At this point, Asher is not able to walk at all, struggles to stand on his own and at times can not even sit up without falling backwards.

Three weeks ago Asher was chasing this Grandma around her car in a fit of giggles.

And then life made us blink....

Asher is now on the Oncology Unit in Calgary Children's Hospital and will be starting treatment for the OMS as well as having surgery to remove the cancer. Depending on how aggressive the tumour is/has been, will determine if he needs Chemotherapy as well.  Regarding his treatment for OMS, Tacie and Brett have decided to go the route with the least amount of risk to Asher, however that means it may take longer to improve his balance, ability to walk, and his tremors.

Brett, a welder who was laid off due to Covid19, was supposed to have knee surgery this week due to an injury at work however Drs have advised them to post pone it.  Asher's situation is the only one they will be able to focus on for the next while and that is how is needs to be, according to the doctors .  Tacie works as a part time Health Care Aid in Olds, however due to Asher's Cancer diagnosis she will not be able to work until Asher is through his treatment.

I am hoping with this Go Fund Me to take some of the financial stress off of Tacie and Brett so they can focus all their love, attention and strength on little Asher. ANY amounts helps, or if you can even share that would be so much appreciated by our family as well. #TeamAsher
