Ashley knew from the time that she was a little girl that wanted to become a teacher. Nothing made her happier than knowing that she was able to make a difference in a child’s life. She dedicated 20 plus years of her life to helping her students. She graduated from UGA with a Master’s degree and from Piedmont College with a Specialist. She was only a few classes away from her Ph.D. in education.
She started off in classrooms and would always come home with stories about “her kids” and how much she enjoyed being there for them. She married the love of her life Eric and they had two beautiful kids Olivia (10) and Ryan (7). Later on, in her career, she switched to teaching through an online school system so that she would be available for her children whenever they needed her. She had a unique skill set that allowed her to teach many different students. Over her years of teaching Ashley has taught many different students from middle school age to even to AP classes at the high school level. She was able to switch gears easily in her career to accommodate varying different styles of student learning. The only thing she loved more than teaching “her kids” was her family. With the juggling expertise that she had, she was able to bounce between being a super teacher to super mom and did so daily. Olivia and Ryan go to a charter school with an immense workload, but after Ashley finished her job for the day, she would spend serval hours tutoring her children and it showed in Ryan and Olivia’s grades.
Unfortunately for us all, on December 28th she started to feel sick and was rushed to the hospital with critical oxygen levels. After she was admitted she was diagnosed with COVID-19. She fought hard having several procedures to help but her lungs were not responding to any of the treatments.
As time went by, she got progressively worse and after a week in the hospital, she was fully intubated and on life support. During this time, she underwent more procedures in hopes of finding a way to stabilize her oxygen levels, but nothing seemed to work. She was on life support for a month and a half before they had to make the painful decision that her body could not take anymore. She passed away peacefully on February 10th at the young age of 44.
We talked about what to do for Ashley as she was not a big flower person. In fact, she told me that the only time she liked flowers was when Eric gave them to her. The most important thing in her life was her family and teaching and she explained to Olivia and Ryan it was required, without question, that they attend college and get a degree.
The money raised in this Gofundme account will be used for college/higher education and the hope is that we can help Olivia and Ryan through college.
Thank you so much for your love, prayers, and support.
