Support for Atofam

Over the past few days, we have received numerous emails and calls from our team. Some of these calls were regarding our team members potentially leaving New York to decline our small fund offer to find a bit more stability and peace of mind elsewhere. Whereas I fully understand and respect their decisions to do so, each and every news of such departure has weighed so heavily in our hearts.

At the core of restaurants are the humans behind them; the team. Without the warmth and talent of the people, restaurant business rarely succeed. Due to the rising costs of living in New York City, it has already lost quite a lot of young, precious, hospitality and culinary talents. I am afraid of what this current state might bring as for the talent make-up for the future of this city. When COVID-19 is long gone (fingers crossed) and economy slowly back to "normal," I don't know if our industry will ever be the same. In order to overcome these challenges, the future of our industry, the young talents need to persevere with us.

Primarily to face this circumstance, Ellia and I along with our salaried managers had put together a collective fund to alleviate the financial burden that has suddenly struck our Atofam. Despite our efforts, the fund was microscopic compared to mound of rent, student loans, utilities, medical bills, and familial support that our team members now have no means of meeting. In order to support our 40+ young, brilliant hospitality and culinary talents of our Atofam, we have now created this public fund. This fund will be distributed to: 1) all of our employees who's been with the company for 6 months and longer at the time of our closure (3/17/20), 2) all of our employees excluding those who have chosen to file for unemployment before  3/30/20), and 3) distributed according to length of employment at the company. It is our hope that your care and love for Atofam will be resonated to all of our team members in this dire time of need.

Every little bit will be helpful, and with each dollar we hope to continue to nurture our team's dreams of becoming the future leaders of this industry that we will need -- from world-renowned chefs to sommeliers and managers and more.

Fighting!

This campaign has been organized by Ahris Kim, the GM of Atoboy LLC., in conjunction with the owners of the restaurants Atoboy & Atomix -  Junghyun (JP) and JeongEun (Ellia) Park. The funds will directly benefit our staff who has suddenly become unemployed due to the global pandemic, and the withdrawals will be distributed to our team members to continue their livelihood while they are in lockdown at their homes here in New York.
