Zoufal Family Warriors! #vinnythewarrior

On May 20th Vincent “Vinny” Robert Zoufal was born weighing 8lbs 6oz and 20inches in length. Alana, Bobby and Mila were delighted by his arrival and were thrilled to officially be a family of 4!

In recovery after Vinny was born, he started to struggle with gagging/choking and discoloration of his lips from his struggles to breath. The discoloration and looking like he was holding his breath happened a few more times within the first few hours after he was born. He was brought to the NICU for his bili being slightly elevated, which was the plan because of Mila having HDN due to ABO. Vinny tested Coombes positive just like Mila and has A+ blood and Alana has O+. The Doctor cut the cord immediately at birth to reduce the amount of my blood and antibodies that crossed to Vinny. (Alana, Bobby and the doctors had known about the potential for Coombes and had a plan in place which was followed)

Once in the NICU the medical team identified a heart murmur. An EKG was taken which showed minor issues which were anticipated to resolve on their own within days of birth. The medical team also noticed his oxygen was dropping and respiratory rate was elevated This continued on and off but was monitored closely throughout the night.

The morning after delivery the NICU Dr shared that Vinny had a 3 minute seizure and medicine was administered. Due to everything they were seeing a call was placed and to NICU team at Lutheran General and Vinny was transported.

Upon being transported to Lutheran General Alana and Bobby learned their precious newborn had suffered 2 strokes and was continuing to have seizures. Over the last several weeks Vinny has fought hard and had many positive steps forward. There have also been some steps backwards and he remains in the NICU but he continues to show everyone his is a warrior!

The road to bring little Vinny home will likely be longer than anticipated and he will need very special care.

The hope for this initial fundraiser is to provide some relief for the family related to medical bills, therapy and preparing their home for Vinny's special needs.

I know we all anxiously await the positive change this little warrior will bring to all of our lives. Alana, Bobby and Mila have been incredibly courageous. They are a family full of love with a desire to helps those in need. It’s now our opportunity to return the favor.
