Support for baby Zoey and family

I've created this page to help my brother Chris, his girlfriend Kayla and her two kids during a very difficult time.

Baby Zoey was born on fathers day at only 32 weeks. An amazing father's day gift and a very happy time for all. Even though she was born premature, she was very healthy.

Zoey has been making STRIDES and up until Saturday she was so close to coming home. Unfortunately, we found out Zoey has a very rare disease called Krabbe disease. She is only one of five cases in Ohio, and the first premie to ever be diagnosed. Most kids with this strain of Krabbe don’t live to see the age of two. So it’s been very hard to process and cope with.

They do have treatment to prolong her life span, which we’re hoping will lead us to a cure. Unfortunately, it consists of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, and possibly gene therapy after that, all at barely a month old.

Chris and Kayla have been beyond themselves knowing what their little baby is about to go through. She seems so happy, full of life and healthy that it’s hard to believe she could ever be sick enough to not be with us anymore.

As her parents, they are going to do everything they can to focus on the future after treatment and do whatever they can to make sure she gets the best care and remedy for this disease.

Baby Zoey is looking at another 2-3 months in the NICU and her parents are doing their best to navigate this new life with her.

Chris and Kayla also have 4 dogs and a couple cats that they are trying to care for so any little bit helps.

Travel to and from the hospital daily, while trying to work and take care of their animals and 2 other children is becoming very hard. When Zoey does come home, there will be home modifications that will need to be done so she can stay there.

Please keep Zoey and our family in your thoughts and prayers, now and always, as she goes through one of the toughest situations a baby can go through. We need all the love and support we can get!
