Clean Water Support For Community in Boffa, Guinea

Boffa, a coastal town in Guinea, is home to a village that faces severe challenges with access to clean water. The community's water sources are contaminated with salt from the ocean and bacteria from decomposing animals. Due to the lack of access to clean water in their area, people have to walk long distances to the nearest water source. Oftentimes, the task of collecting water is most often left to women and young girls. The lack of proper filtration systems exacerbates the situation, making clean, safe water a rare commodity for the residents. This scarcity of clean water not only impacts the daily lives of the people but also poses significant health risks, especially for children and vulnerable populations.

Clean water is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of public health. Access to safe drinking water is crucial for preventing diseases, promoting hygiene, and ensuring the overall well-being of a community. For the residents of this village, having a reliable source of clean water will drastically improve their quality of life, reduce waterborne diseases, and foster a healthier and more resilient community.

NoirUnited International, a USA-based NGO dedicated to implementing community-based interventions for Africa and its diaspora, is proud to partner with the Basse Cote Community of the Guinean Association in Atlanta, GA, to support this vital project in Boffa. Our mission is to enhance community health and resilience through sustainable and impactful projects. We aim to raise funds to build a well in this village that will provide the community with a reliable source of clean water, equipped with the necessary filtration systems to ensure that the water is safe for consumption. We will manually drill a borehole to tap into natural resources underground. This will be able to serve over 400 people with access to clean water. Additionally, we aim to build local capacity for manual drilling work by providing the tools and training, and raise awareness of environmental and climate change-related issues that could cause contamination of water sources or water scarcity.
