Support for Brayden Thew
Donation protected
So many of us have been inspired by my nephew, Brayden Thew. At just 11 days old he was diagnosed with Acquired Pediatric Hydrocephalus. While there is currently no known cure for hydrocephalus, the most common treatment is a medical device called a shunt. The purpose of the shunt is to reduce the pressure inside the brain. To date, Brayden has shown amazing strength by undergoing 7 different neurosurgeries to keep his shunt working correctly.
Brayden has grown into an amazing teenager that has beaten all of the odds against him. He loves attending youth group, playing video games, being a big brother to his 3 younger siblings, bike riding, eating sushi and even excels in competitive swimming!
Now at just 14 years old, we have all the more reason to call him our miracle boy…
On Friday, May 26th, the Thew Family arrived in NY from their home in Rock Hill, SC. The plan was to enjoy time with family & friends for the Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, within 12 hours of their arrival, Brayden was in a horrible dirt bike accident. He was immediately airlifted to Westchester Medical, where it has been all hands-on deck with trauma, neurosurgery, the burn team, plastic surgery, and pediatric surgery. Brayden has significant injuries to his head and face, as well as burns all over his upper body.
By the grace and mercy of God, he is alive and his brain and shunt were unharmed!
He will have surgery on Tuesday, May 30th and will stay in the hospital until he is released to heal. Now Brayden & his family will be extending their stay in NY for a couple of weeks for follow-up appointments and recovery. Many people have been reaching out to ask what they can do to help. Our hope is that the funds raised through GoFundMe will help them navigate through this unexpected journey and alleviate some of the financial responsibilities associated with such a tragedy.
They have been incredibly strong and faith filled, so please continue to cover Brayden and his family in prayer. We pray that God uses Brayden’s story to glorify His name.
They say it takes a village, so on behalf of myself and our entire family...
Thank you for being a part of OUR village.
