A message from Veronica, Bruce’s wife:

From the bottom of my broken heart, I want to thank everyone who participated in this GoFundMe, we didn’t think it was going to go this quickly.

I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of so many. Nothing will ever make this better or go away, but it is a comfort to know that so many people are holding Bruce and myself during this time. It is a comfort.

I want to acknowledge that your contributions have taken a certain pressure and stress from the financial burden. It has allowed me to focus on Bruce’s care and transition.

Our family will be forever grateful to each and every one of you.

Love & Light,
Veronica

It is with great sadness that we share the unwanted news that Bruce Avery has passed. Our hearts ache for Bruce’s wife, Veronica Dillon, and their entire family.

Bruce Morrison Avery passed peacefully at home on January 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife Veronica and family.

Bruce was born May 30, 1953, in Watertown, MA to Austin and Marion (Smith) Avery. He graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1971 and, by 1981, had received a Bachelor's degree from Northeastern University and a Master's degree from Emerson College, both in Boston, MA. A lifelong performer, Bruce began his work as a TV broadcast Meteorologist while in Boston and was featured on stations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and finally became a friendly face on News 12 based out of Long Island for over 20 years.

While he loved being a meteorologist, Bruce’s main career was his tenure as General Manager of WRHU 88.7, Radio Hofstra University. Bruce had recently retired after almost 3 decades of work with students and community members, resulting in a world-class college radio station that won over 4 Marconi Awards, the last win most recently in 2022.

He also contributed by facilitating Leadership Development Programs for Momentum Education, where he influenced thousands more.

His passion was being a mentor, to students and workshop participants. He touched the lives of countless individuals.

He recently began playing pickle ball, which he absolutely loved, and tried to play as much as he could. He had a desire to be on stage again, and fulfilled that with two outstanding performances with "Theater at The Glen". He loved his cat Milo, who never left his side.

As mentioned, Bruce is survived by his wife of 20 years, Veronica Dillon of Ridge, NY, and his children, Rachel Avery Conley, and her husband Christopher Conley, Marcus Avery, Katilyn Bifulco, and Zachary Bifulco. His grandson, Lucas Conley, brother, Roger Avery and his wife Claire Avery, brother in law Daniel Dillon and his wife Katya Dillon, sister-in-law Fatima Partowmah, nieces and nephews Liz (Avery) Campbell, Austin Avery, and Sarah Mae Tanner.

Calling hours will be Saturday, January 21st from 1pm-5pm at Branch Funeral home in Miller Place, with a Eulogy at 4pm. 551 NY-25A, Miller Place, NY 11764.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

With deep gratitude,
Federica Sabez & Lisa Frassanito
