Support for Buhoma Village in Bwindi Uganda
Donation protected
With Covid on our minds, I know right now is not the best time to fundraise, but this is the time when the most vulnerable need the help. $10 can literally change a life!
I am asking for people to donate, or provide suggestions or share this post if they know someone who might be interested in helping. PM if you can help, or have questions. Many thanks! Read on for more information….
Context:
Rafiki, the silverback was recently killed in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, trying to save his family of 17 from hunters. Mountain Gorillas are nearly extinct and Uganda is one of the few countries you can still trek with them. I had the opportunity to trek with them and meet some of the villagers a little over a year ago.

The little village of Buhoma near the Park relies almost solely on tourist dollars from trekking, and because of Covid, many villagers have little to no income. A few of them took to the forest to hunt and find bush meat, and the death of Rafiki was a result.
I do not judge. My family is not starving.
I think we can agree that hunting the gorillas is not a good solution so what I am proposing is:
Stage 1 Fundraising for Food Relief – We are raising money for immediate food relief. I can put the money directly into the hands of a food relief coordinator (see Updates below) from the village of Buhoma.
Typical prices for food in Uganda (CAD):
Maize flour/Posho $4
Beans $7
Onions $10
Tomatoes $5
30 eggs $6
Kg meat $11
Whole chicken $14
You can see how a little bit goes a long way. We are targeting the most vulnerable in this village as the priority.
Stage 2 – Sustainability through Agriculture – this plan is still coming together, but I will share more when I have details, if anyone wants to get involved.
Share this post if you can connect us with like-minded individuals. $10 can make a significant difference! Thank you for your support!
