Support for Carolyn & Michael Chisholm: chemo & pregnancy

As anyone who is friends, family or co-workers of Carolyn and Michael Chisholm would know, this wonderful couple is in for a difficult time.

Sadly, Carolyn has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. This is made particularly complicated due to her being pregnant with their second child.

Carolyn has begun chemotherapy on the 21st of May 2024. Later she will have an induced birth, safely delivering their baby as early as possible, allowing Carolyn to then receive the full treatment needed. Obviously, this is a difficult and stressful process beyond what many of us can relate to.

While Medicare covers the bulk of the chemotherapy costs, Carolyn and Michael have already incurred significant costs in medical appointment in just one week leading up to treatment beginning. There will no doubt be further medical costs down the line, related to both the upcoming care of their early-delivered baby and Carolyn's ongoing treatments.

The most significant financial challenge will come later, with Michael’s potential limited capacity to work due to juggling his duties as caretaker of Carolyn and full parental care of both their young son, Tavish, and their newborn second child. That's where we come in. Offering financial support is one way that we can help ease their burden and stress.

I know that Carolyn and Michael have many family and friends around them in the Port Fairy and Warrnambool region who can help with meals, visits, babysitting, etc. This will be significant for them. For those of us living further away (such as myself), being able to assist financially gives us an avenue of offering support.

Perhaps equally important as the money itself is the gesture of encouragement that donations will show, reminding them that they’re surrounded by people that care.
