Support for CDM in Myanmar - Australia Chapter

Donation protected

We at the Myanmar Students’ Association Australia would like to ask the Australian & International community to provide support for participants of the Civil Disobedience Movement/CDM (in Myanmar) who are facing crippling financial burdens from labour strikes in an effort to actively resist against an oppressive regime in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

On February 1, 2021, Myanmar’s military junta (‘Tatmadaw’), staged a coup to seize power from the elected government in the 2020 general elections on the first day of its transition into office. Several leaders of the government body, including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, were detained. Also, among the detained is an Australian professor, Sean Turnell, who had been working closely with Aung San Suu Kyi as an economics policy advisor.

The people of Myanmar have been adamantly voicing out their condemnation of the military’s actions in various forms of Civil Disobedience Movements (CDM). Peaceful protesters have lined the streets in major cities across the nation, while healthcare workers and civil servants are undergoing labour strikes. In turn, these non-violent demonstrations have been met with blatant displays of human rights abuse by the military and its dispatched policemen. CDM participants have also been threatened to return to work.

What we strive for cannot merely be described as opposing a political party, rather, we are resisting against life under a dictatorship rule where liberty and justice will fail to persist. We have yet to determine how long our fight for freedom would take, but we do know that each passing day increases the financial burden for those partaking in the labour strikes, especially in rural towns where income is close to minimum wage.

Hence, all funds raised from this campaign will go towards various local organisations providing (food, shelter, dedicated monthly proceedings, etc.) to affected participants of CDM across all Regions/States in Myanmar.

We'll donate to the below organisations:

GWSM - Get Well Soon Myanmar Platform
We Support Heros
Civil Disobedience Campaign - Myanmar Engineers
Food at Mandalay
21 Savage MM
ခိုင်မြဲသောလက်များ - Khine Myal Thaw Lat Myar

MSAA will also donate to the areas where the above organisations cannot reach.
