Support for Coach Bill Franey

2/6/24 UPDATE - today is Coach Franey’s 73rd birthday! Perfect time for the latest update. Since mid October, Coach has been home but limited to sitting in his recliner and occasionally able to lay in his bed. A home health nurse visits 7 days / week for 5hrs in the mornings. Additionally, he received in home PT 4 days / week. Although he’s still not walking, he gained enough progress to be transferred to Encompass Rehab Center for more intensive PT/OT/group therapy 6 days a week. He’s been there since 1/28 and through several insurance appeals will stay until 2/15. This is great news as he’s starting to work on transferring from wheelchair to chair & back. They continue to push him to his limits and wear him out daily in a good way. The end goal is still to see him be able to walk & continue to live independently.

There’s still many costs incurred for home health & medical costs incurred outside of what insurance covers. If you’d like to bless him with a birthday gift I know he would greatly appreciate it.

UPDATE - Bill was transferred from Baylor Scott & White, Grapevine to a skilled nursing facility in Bedford last night (Fri, 9/8). Starting next week he will resume PT & OT in hopes he shows enough improvement to eventually be moved to an Inpatient Rehab facility. Standing, walking & getting to Inpatient are the 30 day goals. Please help donate toward the additional therapy & care we know will be necessary in the coming months. Your prayers are also wanted & appreciated.
Bill is extremely appreciative of your generosity. Please feel free to reach out to him. He has his phone and definitely enjoys hearing from you.

Coach Franey/Bill has had an impact on so many people young & old for many, many years. Most of you know about his stroke in July 2017 where after he was able to rehab & even with limited use of his right side was still able to live independently. Bill’s motivation then & now is to be back on the court & sideline coaching young ladies. It’s been his life long passion!!

Unfortunately Bill’s been saddled with yet another challenge. June 2nd he had to have his gall bladder removed, shortly thereafter he developed an infection requiring another procedure. This led to an extended 9 week stay at a Skilled Nursing facility. Over this period of time his strength on his left side had been compromised & even with PT & OT he was sent home August 22 still unable to stand & walk. After being home 9 days, he’s back in the hospital awaiting insurance approval to go back to Skilled Nursing.

There are many unknowns right now including how long his next stay will be & how this will all play out over the coming weeks & months. Bill’s ultimate goal is to not leave this next stay until he can stand & walk again. What we do know is there will be additional therapy needed above and beyond the 30 or so minutes per day insurance covers. This PT will require private (Bill) to pay out of pocket, also pretty certain once he is released there is Private Care of someone coming in to help him for a few hrs daily which also isn’t covered under insurance. Lastly we know the apartment he’s been in no longer is safe for him to return or if his living situation will have to change altogether.

For the majority of the past 3 months Bill’s spirits continue to remain positive. There have been some bad days but Bill’s a fighter! Many of you have asked how you can help? We ask that you help fight alongside Bill & support him with anything you can spare. He has a long road ahead still & easing his financial burdens will help his mental tremendously.

Most of you know my daughter, Lexi, played for Coach Franey for 7 years & my husband coached with him for many of those. I know I speak for Bill when I say your generosity is greatly appreciated.
