Justice for Julius...
The biggest mistake that we can ever make as a collective, is to believe that Justice is and can only be achieved in a courtroom. While Amendment 4 is known as the campaign of second chances, Julius Irving, like so many others has never had a 1st chance. Please take some some time and read an article and listen to a podcast featuring, Gainesville, Florida Community Organizer Julius Irving, published by the New York times. This formerly incarcerated Father, Son, Brother, and mentor to his community has not only been doing the work in isolated and vulnerable local neighborhoods of Gainesville, but he is doing it while homeless and unable to meet his basic needs. When the article was released in March this year, Julius at least had a job and a car. Today he has neither of those, but has not slowed down in empowering and mobilizing his community to individually and collectively exercise their right to VOTE. Also included is a video of Julius sharing a little about himself 2 years prior at a FRRC convening.
Julius in his 2019 interview talks about the abuse he faced both in and out of prisons. As a black man Julius often says that he is invisible to the world around him. Let's show Julius that he is seen and loved and that his life does matter. Julius trial is fast approaching and we are trying to secure funds for a suit for trial as well as seek defense that will defend Julius and the facts of this case and not the color of skin. Julius is a victim in this case and without our support his family will soon be grieving the lost of another brother, son and father. Julius is fighting for more than his and others right to vote, like so many black organizers before his time, Julius is fighting for his Life!
