*** Update: We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our friend, Lobo, at San Javier Hospital on November 18th at 11pm. He had Corinna by his side and was blessed to be surrounded by friends. Over the coming weeks and months, Corinna will continue to need the support of our friends and community. Not only is she grieving the loss of her much loved partner and best friend, but she also will be facing the challenge of restructuring their business, as Lobo was the face and guide of Vallarta Tequila Tastings. She is still facing huge bills from his previous medical procedures which the insurance company is refusing to cover. Our dear friend and well-loved guide to local culture, food and spirits, Puerto Vallarta's Lobo Lopez, has just been diagnosed with end stage cancer affecting his liver, bones and lungs. He is 45 years old. The cancer is inoperable. All the doctors can do is look for treatments that may extend his life beyond the next few months.
You may know Lobo as Wolf, or by his proper name - Ricardo Verduzco Lopez. He was born in Michoacan and grew up in the U.S. He and his business and life partner, Canadian-born Corinna Levine Dahlin, are the owners of Vallarta Tequila Tastings (vallartatequilatastings.com) Corinna is an artist, born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. She graduated from the Bealart secondary school program in London, ON, and from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC.
Corinna and Lobo are still reeling from the shock of this tragic news. They face huge expenses for his medical care while trying to keep their business afloat.
If that were not enough, they have been fighting a losing battle with their insurance company which has refused to cover any costs from Lobo’s hospital stay this past spring due to injuries caused by a freak bicycle accident. Three transfusions (aided by many friends who generously gave blood and encouraged others to do the same) and two operations saved his life but ate up their savings. The hospital has charged Corinna’s credit card with a huge bill. The interest rates are overwhelming. Their cash flow has dwindled significantly.
Corinna and Lobo have been together for 12 years, having started VTT just five years ago. During that time Wolf completed a demanding three-year program to qualify as a federally-licensed tour guide. This would have allowed the couple to grow the business by expanding the variety of tours offerings. Their plans and dreams have now been shattered.
The dynamic Lobo has always loved to perform his tequila-tasting magic for visitors and locals, with Corinna managing operations. He has fans from all over who tell their friends, stay in touch and seek him out whenever they return to PV.
Corinna remains devastated after learning that she will soon lose the love of her life. Nevertheless, she hopes to carry on the enterprise they started together, motivated by Lobo's passion for sharing his broad knowledge, deep respect and abiding love of Mexican traditions, food and spirits.
We urge the many friends and relatives of this extraordinary couple to help ease their financial burden and see them through this painful journey. They will be very grateful for your generosity.
