Support for Dawn and Eric Smith

Update: Sadly, Eric Smith passed away in the early morning hours of 3/2/22. Thank you to everyone who has supported the family during this rough and difficult time. We are going to keep the fundraiser going at this time as a memorial of Eric and funds for Dawn and the family to lean on during the next few weeks while they grieve. 

As many of you know, Eric Smith has been battling cancer for some time now. He has been at UofL Hospital for a few weeks now off and on. He had an MRI yesterday. The results of his MRI were not what they wanted to hear. There is a brain lesion blocking where the brain stem meets the spinal cord causing fluid to build up in his brain. Surgery to put an external shunt in is too risky with his other brain lesions. It runs the risk of brain bleed and stroke, and the only benefit which it isn’t great is it would make him more alert of the inevitable. We don’t know how much time could be a couple days to a week we don’t know. This was not a decision that was easily made.

Dawn is going to have to take time off work to be there with her husband in his final days. They are going to have expenses that of course no one plans for and it's already been a rough road with it going down to a one income household lately. I want to make sure Dawn can take one less stress off her plate and not worry about paying her bills so she can deal with everything else at this time.

I know she loves and appreciates all of you and let's come together to make sure her and J are taken care of right now.
