Support for DC Metro Worker

Donation protected

On the Friday before Mothers Day,  Jordanian-American author Natasha Tynes posted a pic of a DC Metro worker (Ms. C) enjoying a quick lunch break. Instead of minding her own business, Tynes decided to publicly target this worker with a post on Twitter.

As others have noted, this blatant disregard for the well-being and safety of a Black woman at her place of employment is not new. That does not make it any less intolerable. It appears that Tynes may have lost her book deal as a result of her behavior. In the meantime, Ms. C. has had to bear the emotional and psychological trauma of being targeted. She has had to take time off work, recalibrate, and seek to re-center herself and her children.

We are a group of Palestinian-Americans, Arabs, Muslims, and concerned citizens who stand against racism, anti-Blackness, capitalism, and all forms of materialism that blind us to our common humanity. We cannot fathom what it would be like to have someone take a picture of us at work, then blast the internet to shame us. We stand with our Black sisters in struggle against this all to common form of harassment and policing.

With the knowledge of the union and consent of the DC Metro Worker, who has decided not to go public with her name because of the abuse that has already been meted at her
and her children as a result of the Twitter incident, we are fundraising to support her as a statement of our love and solidarity, especially as she has needed to take time off from work to recover from this incident. Especially during the month of Ramadan, it is essential for us to come together and stand united to support victims of racism in our community. Please consider donating as part of your charitable and zakat contributions this year.
