Support Dexter and his Family

Hi, we are Ashley and Alicia and we are fundraising for Dexter, Ashley's nephew and Alicia's son's best friend. Last November Dexter was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) cancer. It is an extremely aggressive childhood cancer that forms on the brainstem. The diagnosis changed his and his family's lives instantly. Immediately upon diagnosis, Dexter was admitted to UC Davis hospital where he completed 6 weeks of targeted radiation and physical therapy to help mobility for the right side of his body that is being inhibited by the tumor.

Dexter is in second grade and is turning 8 soon. Dexter has two brothers and a new baby sister. To ensure Dexter received the best treatment possible, his mom and baby sister stayed with Dexter in Davis while his dad and two brothers remained in Redding. During his initial six weeks of treatment, the family traveled every weekend to be with each other and ensure the most time possible together.

The current prognosis of DIPG is poor, but there are research institutes and hospitals that are engaged in trials and studies. Dexter's family is now looking into options for clinical trials which will most likely require a lot of travel along the West Coast.
