Support Fund for Duron Cox's Funeral Expenses

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind-hearted Strangers,

My name is Rashida Cox, and I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support during this incredibly difficult time. On July 14th, my beloved brother, Duron Cox, passed away from complications related to a rare genetic disease called cerebellar ataxia. This disease has tragically claimed the lives of several of my family members, and now, it has taken my brother too.

Understanding Cerebellar Ataxia

Cerebellar ataxia is a rare condition that affects the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls coordination and balance. Those who suffer from this disease experience a gradual loss of motor control, leading to difficulties with walking, speaking, and performing everyday tasks. The disease progresses over time, causing significant physical and emotional distress for both the patients and their families.

A Family History of Heartbreak

This devastating disease runs deep in my family's history. My ancestors battled with it, and it claimed the lives of my aunt Kimberly, my mother, my nephew, and now my brother, Duron. From a young age, I dedicated myself to caring for my family members who were affected by this cruel disease.

My journey began with my aunt Kimberly, who, after her diagnosis, lived in a nursing home. I visited her often, taking pride in combing her hair, cleaning her, and keeping her room filled with cards and flowers. When my mom fell ill, I became her primary caregiver, staying by her side until her last moments.

My Bond with Duron

Duron and I were nine years apart but inseparable. Though we fought like cats and dogs, he was my hero and protector. He gave me a beautiful niece and nephew. Tragically, my nephew also had ataxia and succumbed to complications at the tender age of 11 earlier this year. This disease has a tendency to ravage those afflicted in their 30s and 40s, but it took my nephew much earlier.

After my nephew's passing, all I had left was my brother. Just as I had cared for my mom, aunt, and father, I committed to doing the same for Duron. He fought hard, and I believe the loss of his son left him with a broken heart no one could mend. Yesterday, he left to be with his baby boy and our parents.

A Call for Help

With Duron's unique condition, there is limited insurance coverage available. The small policy we have first has to go through an investigation, which can take months or more. I wasn’t prepared for this financial burden, despite trying to do the right thing by securing insurance for him.

I am humbly asking for your support to help bury my brother as best as we can. Any little bit helps, and I appreciate your kindness and generosity during this challenging time. For those who knew and loved my brother, your assistance would mean the world to us.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,
Rashida Cox
