Support For Elder Healing From Emergency Spinal Surgery

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,

I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea for my disabled mom, who is recovering from an emergency surgery on her spine. My mom is not only a rock in the family, but the primary caretaker of my grandmother Rosie. Both my mom and grandmother are disabled and live with long COVID, navigating complex health challenges each day.

Though they are both retired and receive Social Security benefits, the rising rent and healthcare costs mean my mom has had to work a part-time retail job at minimum wage to make ends meet. This surgery will result in several weeks, if not months, of recovery, during which she will be unable to work at her former capacity. Without her added income, their housing stability will be at serious risk.

Housing insecurity among older adults is a growing crisis in our country. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, people aged 50 and older are the fastest-growing group of people experiencing homelessness in America, with numbers expected to triple by 2030. This crisis disproportionately impacts Black communities. In 2023 alone, there were over 243,000 Black American people experiencing homelessness in the United States, despite Black people making up only 13.6% of the population. Black individuals accounted for 37.3% of the total homeless population, a staggering overrepresentation that reflects deep systemic inequities.

This is not just about numbers—it’s about people. It’s about my mom and grandmother, who have worked so hard their entire lives and deserve the chance to heal and remain housed while doing so.

Your support could make all the difference. Donations will go directly toward:
• Rent and housing expenses to ensure they stay in their home.
• Medical bills and recovery/rehabilitation-related costs.
• Daily living expenses while my mom heals.

No amount is too small, and every contribution is a step toward keeping my family safe and housed during this challenging time. If you cannot donate, sharing this page with your network would mean the world to us.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for your kindness and generosity. Your support will allow my mom to focus on her recovery without the weight of financial worry and help keep our matriarchs housed where they belong.

With gratitude,
Aaron
