Remembering Dominique
Poet, actor and artist Dominque Lowell passed away suddenly on June 10th 2017. Loved and adored by many, known for her warmth, infectious laugh, and big personality, Dominique had immersed herself in theater – writing, acting, directing and producing --around the U.S. and in Europe for more than 35 years. Her poetry has been anthologized in publications including the Outlaw Bible of American Poetry. She performed with organizations including Shakespeare in Detroit, the Bowery Poetry Club, New York and at the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe, Scotland.
Dominique’s proudest accomplishment was her son, Elijah Lowell (19). Elijah, a computer science major, made the dean’s list this year as a freshman at Michigan State University. He has a scholarship that pays most of his tuition, and some of his on-campus dorm cost, but that leaves a lot uncovered. As a single mother working in the arts, Dominique left few assets to help support Elijah as he continues through college and transitions to adulthood. In Dominique’s memory, family and friends are raising funds to help support Eli as he gets through the next couple years.
In addition to Elijah, Dominique is survived by her mother Amy Lowell; her brother Bradford Lowell, his wife Melissa Andrade and their daughter Sophia; step-mom Judy Rose and step-sisters Christy and Corinne Rose. Dominique was preceded in death by her father journalist Jon Lowell, who passed away in March of 2016. A memorial will be held for Dominique at the Greek amphitheater atCranbrook Academy in Bloomfield Hills MI on Friday, August 4, 2017. A full obituary and information on the memorial will be posted soon. Please share this post with others who may have known Dominique.
