In The Fight of her LIFE….
My mother, Evelyn Dempsey, is the strongest person I know in spirit and fortitude. She is my best friend, and it’s beyond my comprehension that she has yet been faced again with such an obstacle, cancer, that I can only pray she can overcome. I often wonder how one can continually face death and barriers that would take down the strongest of us. Yet, she has always done whatever needs to be done to survive while maintaining a warm smile and heart. At the same time, she continues to care for those in need, whether that be her patients she has served in the community for many years, her family, her friends, and even strangers.
She is a spirit that will take and has taken the shirt off her back to ease the suffering of others without a second thought, as this is who she is. She has never left another in need, and now the strongest person I know, my hero and the hero of so many, is in need...
My mom came from very humbling beginnings and raised four children herself with no education. Yet, she put herself through school, starting with becoming a C.N.A., to becoming an L.P.N., to applying and going to Husson College to become an R.N. before selling everything she owned, including her home at age 50, to move out of state to attend school to become the Physician Assistant (PA) you know her as today. She did not let anything stop her, and this is how she has lived her life, but life has had obstacles for her to overcome in the form of cancer.
Learning of having stage 3 lung cancer five years ago, my mom, Evelyn, fought and won; who would have ever thought this possible… Unfortunately, this did not last long as three other cancers immediately followed, with each taking a little more strength and fortified from her, but she continued to move forward and work helping others. Today, five years later, she is faced again with cancer and is in the FIGHT OF HER LIFE. The stress and anguish of not only the fight of the disease but finances while doing this as the head of her household is beyond overwhelming…
All of her focus is needed right now on saving her life. The loss of work has been significant and will only increase with medical treatment and care, including travel. The funds raised will help cover these and living expenses assuring one less worry and allowing her to focus on her medical journey to live. Anyone that knows her knows she would rather do anything else than receive help, but she is struggling with the burden that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
We will keep you updated on how she is doing as she proceeds with the next steps in her cancer treatment, and thank you for your good wishes and care.
