Support for Family Devastated by Hurricane Debby

Donation protected
I’m Katy,
I’ve decided to start a go fund me in the hopes I can help my brother and sister-in-law through a rough time.
On August 5th my brother and my sister-in-law lost all of their belongings along with their vehicle due to Hurricane Debby and their local county dam releasing water and raw sewage. The house they were renting was deemed unsafe to live in by FEMA and told they would only be receiving $4,027.71. They had just purchased a Travel Trailer which suffered water damage as well. The insurance adjuster advised it would more than likely be a total loss due to the raw sewage. Renter's Insurance does not cover damage from flooding due to natural disasters. The insurance on the vehicle and travel trailer will pay off the loans, but they now have no way to replace those items and were planning on living in the RV until they could get back on their feet.

During the flooding, the well and air conditioner were damaged. No A/C or running water further ruined anything that could be salvaged. Mold grew quickly and the Landlord refused to fix either issue.

My brother was terminated by his employer via email because his company truck was flooded. He was on approved PTO from August 5th through August 9th. They left for vacation on August 4th when they believed Hurricane Debby was over, not knowing the next day the dam would be released and their life would be forever changed. The road they lived on was shut down for 4 days. My brother has contacted an attorney and due to Florida Laws, he's unable to file a wrongful termination case.

My sister-in-law suffered a hypoxic brain injury in December of 2023 after going into anaphylactic shock while in the ER and not receiving oxygen while her throat was swollen shut. She has tried multiple times to file a lawsuit against the doctor, but yet again Florida Laws prevent anyone from taking the case. She is now on Long Term Disability and now is only receiving 60% of her pay. She still requires medical treatment and needs to pay for Cobra Coverage.

They are not the type of people to ask for help, but under these circumstances they have tried every possible outlet to receive help and have hit road blocks every time.

Every donation helps! Big or small, you can enter the amount you graciously choose to donate. There's a $5.00 minimum and the tip is able to be adjusted as well. It goes to Go Fund Me and not the family.
