A couple of weeks ago my mum was re-diagnosed with stage 3 invasive breast cancer. And yes that is correct re diagnosed. Back in 2009 at the age of 49 my mum was first diagnosed with breast cancer, she had to undergo three separate surgeries before having to get a mastectomy to rid all of the cancer. Not even a year down the track she had saved up enough money to get reconstructed when we received the worst news possible. My dad had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.Multiple surgeries, pin-point radiation, chemo and unfortunately in 2013 he lost his battle.

Since the passing of my father, my mum had to return to work, and as she is getting older the work is taking a toll on her body. From taking days off for a bad back, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, you name it and mum has probably been through it.

Since then my mum has been living off a minimum casual wage, In the mist of only working a casual job, she has had her bathrooms pulled apart from water damage and also recently had the underground car park flood and loose some of her possessions. All to which will be at her expenses.

Not a day goes by that I do not look up to my mum. Not once has she broken down or given up. No matter what life throws at her she can still wear a smile on her face and say " don't worry Teal we will get through this".She is always one to put others first no matter the circumstances (including all of her kids) but will still never ask for anything in return.

With that being said, on Mother's day this year I will be running the 8km Mother’s day run to help raise money for mum. 8kms may not sound like a lot to some but if anyone knows me and if there was one thing I hate, it’s running.

For the friends and family that know mum, she is a very independent woman and hates to ask for help, and unfortunately with my study and only working casual at the moment it breaks me that I cannot financially help my mum.

Any donation will help, and to make life a little easier and less stressful while mum will be recovering
