Support for Glen & Terry Chauncey
Dear Friends and Family of Terry Chauncey,
As you may know, Terry was diagnosed in early June with glioblastoma, a grade 4 brain tumor—an aggressive type of cancer that affects nerve cells. Despite a frightening prognosis by her local doctors, Terry and her husband Glen immediately took courageous, positive steps to find a wonderful neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins who was prepared to perform the risky surgery as soon as possible. Without surgery, Terry faced a short timeline of increasingly worsening symptoms; with surgery, Terry would likely have some paralysis and a difficult road to recovery, but with the potential of a significantly longer and greater quality of life. Terry and Glen made the brave choice to aggressively fight this cancer! In Terry’s words, “I will beat the beast! I’m ready to fight.”
Before surgery, Terry demonstrated the sweet, positive, and optimistic attitude for which she is well known. Glen was as committed as ever to help her to heal and return home to their furbabies, Moe and Curly. The “beast” was exhausting in the days leading to the surgery, but Terry was grounded by her faith in God, by the love and support of so many people that adored her, and by her belief in miracles. Terry with Glen, chauffeured by her brothers, traveled to Baltimore. On June 22, she endured a grueling surgery to great success! The surgery went as well as could be anticipated for her; in fact, the surgeon was thrilled that he was able to remove 99% of the tumor and all of us cheered at the sight of her beautiful, post-surgery smile. Terry, as always, was filled with gratitude and faith. Over the next 2 1/2 weeks, she fought extremely hard to retrain her left side to walk again through a regimen of occupational and physical therapy. Terry demonstrated the same dedication and devotion to her recovery as she had brought to all walks of her life before this moment—a similar passion that carried her in her job at Duck Creek, in her many friendships, in her commitment to fitness, and in her most important relationship with Glen and the pups. Through it all, Glen faithfully remained at her side and was her greatest fan, advocate, and friend. The couple celebrated and renewed their vows as Glen was on his knees next to her hospital bed. On her final day of rehab at Johns Hopkins, Terry's hard work and positive attitude were rewarded as she was able to feel her muscles engage and she was able to walk on a barre! Though there would be much left to accomplish in days ahead, Terry and Glen rejoiced in their miracle, as Terry called it, and prepared for their lengthy trip home. Terry posted her gratitude for Dr. Jackson and the team at Johns Hopkins, for her family and friends, and for the reminder of God’s promises she saw on the way home as a full rainbow filled the sky. Accompanied by Terry's brother Lew and sister-in-law Stephanie, Glen and Terry finally returned home at 11:30 pm on July 9, much to the joy of Curly and Moe who peacefully slept with their parents again at last!
The very next morning upon waking, Terry told Glen that she was "seeing stars." As Glen quickly ran to provide her some comfort, Terry became totally non-responsive. Despite being rushed to the hospital and the tireless efforts from the ER staff to revive her, the amazing, beautiful light that was Terry went out at 9 a.m. on July 10, 2021.
Terry Chauncey, sweet and kindhearted friend, loving sister, enthusiastic coworker, cherished aunt, and most beloved wife and mother, has left an unforgettable mark. All who knew Terry are shocked and deeply saddened by this turn of events, especially after such an encouraging and inspiring road of recovery, but none more so than Glen, who lost the true love of his life and his dearest best friend. Glen is now left without his bride, broken-hearted, and with a mountain of expenses and medical bills. Many people have displayed such an outpouring of love and support for Glen in this unexpected outcome and have also expressed a desire to help in some tangible way. Of course, we thank you and welcome the continued prayers for his healing and comfort, but also, if you're able, any donation to help lessen the financial burden would be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small, and every positive consideration extended to Glen during this challenging time is truly valued.
Thank you for the love you've given to Terry and thank you, in advance, for the assistance you can now give to Glen. The last words that Terry shared to the world: "LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST AND BELIEVE!" Amen, Terry, Amen!
