Support for Greg (aka Smitty) After Serious Car Accident

Greg was in a horrific car accident Friday, September 20, 2024. Having just recovered from COVID, he was overcome by a coughing episode so severe that he blacked out. He lost control and hit a parked semi-trailer and sustained serious injuries.

His right arm was broken between the shoulder and elbow, most (if not all) of his ribs were broken, and his left leg was shattered all the way up to his femur, where the steel rod from a prior hip replacement was.

He was able to undergo surgery on his arm last Saturday, but due to the unique situation with his leg and the need to order special parts for it, he had to wait a week for the procedure on his leg. That 7+ hour surgery took place yesterday.

Greg has never been one to ask for help and so many people have asked what they can do. He is facing weeks, if not months, of intensive physical therapy and recovery. It is unclear at this point just how long he will be unable to work.

We have set an initial goal of $5,000 in the hopes of surpassing that and easing some of his burden. He will probably be upset with me for setting this up for him, but I thought it would be easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. I know that our community can do great things when we come together and that is my hope for this.
