Support for Hayes Family Post-Fire Tragedy

Family’s Home Ravaged by Fire on Independence Day Weekend - Georgetown, Kentucky

Imagine preparing for all the fun and festive activities commonly associated with the Fourth of July celebrations. Most people are looking forward to cookouts, time with family and friends, and even some fun by the pool.

Greg and Hanie Hayes were doing just that when tragedy struck. The home they share with their two young daughters was completely ravaged by fire. Their family vehicles were also completely destroyed by this catastrophe.

Fortunately, their entire family, including their two pet dogs were safely evacuated from the house so no loss of precious life occurred.

Greg and Hanie are now faced with the daunting task of picking up the pieces of their home and their life. As they sift through the rubble of what’s left of their home, the shock of the catastrophe makes it painfully difficult to decide where to even begin.

The close knit neighborhood where Greg and Hanie reside have flocked to them for support. People bringing water, food, and a friendly shoulder are in abundance. But what they desperately need is financial support.

Homeowner’s insurance usually covers only a portion of the losses. Between the shocking loss of their home AND their family vehicles, the financial burden they now find themselves strapped with is significant. Especially for a hardworking, middle-class family.

Our homes and our modes of transportation represent so much more than monetary matters. They represent our safety and security and our way to make a living. It’s impossible to monetize the psychological impact of such a catastrophe.

Donations have begun to come in to support the Hayes family after the total loss of their home to a devastating house fire. But more donations are desperately needed. Greg, Hanie and their children need support for temporary housing. They are currently staying in a local hotel, but they will need longer term housing after this week.

When the fire destroyed their home, all they had left were the clothes they were wearing. They had to go to Walmart to purchase clothes just to wear for the interviews they did with WLEX and WKYT when those local news agencies came out to report on the fire.

They must also find temporary housing for their pets which is very expensive. The cost for these items can easily begin to mount into thousands of dollars.

Greg and Hanie live just a few miles from Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown Kentucky. They have owned their home since 2014. Their youngest daughter attends Scott County High School. Greg worked in the building industry before joining the team at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. Hanie is also an employee of Toyota Logistical Services (TLS).

We have been neighbors of Greg and Hanie Hayes for approximately 7 years. With their permission we started this fund raising effort. One hundred percent of donations will go directly to paying for temporary housing, clothing, food, temporary pet housing, daily supplies such as toiletries, medicine, toilet paper, etc.
