Who this will help
Hello and thank you for taking time to read this. This fund is for our brother n law, Dave, who is in hospice care with stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer, his wife Judy (our sister) and their two children, Matt and Jessica.
Let me tell you a bit about Dave...
One of Dave's greatest passions is the scouts. He has been a Scout Master, Asst. Scout Master, Council Camping Committee member, Council Webelos Conservation Camp Director and Den Leader. He never misses an event and has received many accolades and awards over the years including the two latest awards for District Award of Merit and The Silver Beaver Award (see pic). Just recently the Scout Leaders gathered together and presented the last two while Dave was in hospice. He has dedicated his time, his own supplies, equipment and funds to help dig trenches, install drain pipe, cut down trees and built a bridge all so the scouts stayed dry and safe all the while constantly setting examples of living life by the Scout Law. Dave even played an active role in the development of an adjustable archery rig so that scouts in wheelchairs can participate in the archery program. Dave has touched the lives of many and continues to do so.
Dave also loved hunting and camping. He and his family have a hunting camp with many acres. Dave and Judy also just purchased a beautiful camper earlier this summer where they were able to enjoy some quality time with family and friends just before Dave became ill.
From his wife, Judy:
It may seem that what I'm about to say has been said before but I think it's important to let you see through my eyes about Dave.
I've known Dave since 1987. My father and his father introduced us and 33 years later I've witnessed a man who is selfless. He worked at Kodak and then started a full-time machining business in our back yard working over 80 plus hours a week with business starting from just word of mouth. His dedication to help other businesses is overwhelming, never missing a beat. Even with the business of the shop and his involvement with the scouts his whole life has been about helping others in any way he could and without expecting anything in return. Dave would drop everything to help our neighbors whatever it was they needed whether it'd be putting up a mailbox to giving support emotionally. I am so lucky to call him my husband.
Now Dave's children, Matt and Jessica, are helping to keep Dave's machining business running and living the examples that Dave has instilled in them of hard work, dedication and passion.
Why I'm fundraising
The cost for end of life care is not fully covered by insurance and can be up to $200 a day out of pocket. This along with the cost of gas, parking, food and one less income has been overwhelming for the family.
The impact of your support
The donated funds will be used to help pay for Dave's end of life care and the bills the family occur along the way. Dave's only wish is that his family is taken care of and this fund will give him that peace of mind to allow him to focus on the love of his family and friends at this time and not have to worry about how they will carry on financially.
