Support for Halifax community!
On Wednesday, August 18th, 24 community members were arrested at a demonstration against the harassment and removal of under/unhoused folks from shelters. These people need assistance retaining fair and just legal representation. The donations collected though this fundraiser will be put toward covering legal costs for those detained and charged. The organizers of this fund are not connected to Legal Aid, and these funds are for costs which are unable to be covered or waived through Legal Aid.
This fundraiser is put together by a small group of people located in Kjipuktuk/Halifax who came together in support of those arrested during the direct action against the destruction of temporary shelters and removal of unhoused individuals on August 18.
With support from a lawyer working with those facing charges, these funds will be distributed equitably once the scope of the costs is more apparent.
