Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues of Jacob.
To start this write up, I want to recount a bit of Jacob's story that has led to this point.
A few months back, while out for lunch on a Sunday, Jacob began to experience a sudden and debilitating headache that progressed into a series of seizures. Upon this frightening shock, Jacob was rushed to the hospital and administered a CT scan among other tests. The scan revealed a tumor that was pushing up against his brain, triggering the seizures. When it was first discovered, none of us knew the extent of its growth and nature, only knowing it had grown to a notable size and had to be removed as soon as possible.
Jacob spent the entire week in the ICU before being transferred to another hospital to await a craniotomy. Thankfully, about a week after the initial seizure, Jacob was able to undergo the surgery and have the majority of the tumor removed. The doctors were not able to remove 100% of the tumor without compromising good brain tissue, risking further and permanent damages.
Jacob spent the next few weeks recovering and waiting for the results of the biopsy. Unfortunately, the biopsy later revealed that the tumor was in fact cancerous and classified as a high grade "Anaplastic Astrocytoma."
Throughout this challenging time, Jacob has been unable to drive or work which has presented significant obstacles to his daily routines. Jacob's journey back to normalcy, while hopeful, is still a variable at this point.
At the beginning of December, Jacob started a combined chemotherapy and radiation treatment regiment. Jacob underwent 33 individual sessions of radiation at BC Cancer in Abbotsford. He recently finished up his radiation in mid January, and granted a short break from his chemotherapy. Jacob is now resuming chemo starting this week for 12 rounds that will span over the next 12 months. This brings a lot of unknowns with his ability to return to work and earn a full salary again. Jacob also faces uncertainties with future treatment costs.
A few months before the diagnosis, Jacob also lost the majority of his possessions in an apartment fire, leaving him to move in to a new basement suit. He will eventually have to replace the remainder of his possessions. Due to all these extenuating circumstances we ask for your financial support and contributions to alleviate the financial obstacles and burdens Jacob will face in the coming months.
There is still much that we do not know. We do not know the effectiveness of the radiation treatment or how the chemotherapy will attack the cells. We also do not know what the tumor will do moving forward, but we ask you to continue to pray for the big and small miracles as Jacob continues fighting.
For those who know Jacob know him for his soft and kind heart. He is characterized by his love and care for others, his generous spirit, and his tender care for children. Jacob has spent a lot of his past years as a camp counsellor and youth leader at the church.
Through this Go Fund Me, we invite you all into Jacob's community of supporters. We will do our best to update this as needed and pass along all words of prayer and encouragement directed Jacob's way.
Thank you and God Bless.
