How can you help?
Please donate what you can to help their family get back on its feet after a long, hard battle against Testicular Cancer. Anything is appreciated by Jake & his family.
Jake’s Story
Jake has spent the last three months battling Stage 3 testicular cancer. He made it through 21 infusions of chemotherapy over 9 weeks, during which he was only able to sleep, get sick, and occasionally eat while not at treatment.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the intensity of his treatment regimen, Jake’s oncologist recommended complete quarantine. He and his family will spend a total of 16 weeks in complete isolation. During that period, Zelda turned one, they missed Thanksgiving and Christmas, Jake turned 38, and Luke turned 5. Neither Jake nor Alexa was able to work during the treatment and recovery period, since outside childcare was not possible due to their quarantine orders. Thankfully, they’ve only got two weeks left!
Jake has JUST started to feel up to small periods of activity, and the whole family is looking forward to getting back to some normalcy, back to work, and, most of all, hugging the people who they’ve been missing so terribly!
Why they need your help
Jake is self-employed as a freelance YouTube publisher, and he also watches both children during Alexa’s working hours. Alexa works full-time for a local family business, as well as part-time as Director of the Uptown Ankeny Farmers’ Market. What that means is Jake has bottom-tier health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. Now that medical bills are rolling in, it’s clear that they will need help meeting the costs of Jake’s treatment.
