On July 7, 2017, my beautiful friend Jamie received the devasting news that her son Skylar tragically died from a drug overdose at the age of 19. Skylar suffered with mental health issues and drug addiction. Jamie was Skylar's biggest advocate and fought so hard to help him.
The last few years for Jamie have been unbeleivably tough. Beginning five years ago, she lost the man she had thought she would marry to suicide. He was like a Dad to Skylar, and his death had a profound effect on them both. Skylar needed more help than Jamie could provide, and she navigated our broken health care and juvenile system the best she could to get Skylar that help. The energy, strength and determination that took was unbelievable, and it was at the expense of her own well-being and career.
More recently, Jamie was laid off from her job and has been struggling to find work within Alberta's weakened economy.
Jamie was a young, single mom, and she and Skylar grew up together. She is one of the best moms I know and one of the strongest people I have ever met. Anyone who is lucky enough to call Jamie a friend, or even to have met her, knows she has a heart of gold. She is the first to help anyone in their time of need, and the last to ask for it. But right now she does need our help. She needs some financial reprieve to help her through the next few months.
The link to Skylar's obituary is below. Thank you to everyone in advance for their love and support.

Hold the ache of the loss in your heart.
Miss him, but find joy in the rememberance of his life.
Know that you can do the impossible because you have been through the unimaginable."
