Jenn Yaukey’s Road to Recovery

On Wednesday morning, our mom found out her appendix had ruptured after going to the ER for stomach pain. She had chronic appendicitis which built over a 10 day period, ultimately leading to the rupture. The doctors were able to act quickly and inserted a drain to the appendix to ensure that all matter leaking out from the appendix and related abscess were coming out of her body rather than spreading further within. After this surgery, she was still struggling with nausea and pain so they had to insert an NG tube to provide suction from her stomach to ensure that the excess stomach fluid was getting out of her body since it couldn’t pass through the small intestine due to the closeness to the appendix. Things have improved slowly each day, and pain has continued to decrease, but the current expectation is another 2 days in the hospital at a minimum. After discharge, she’ll need to rest and recover and the doctors are saying that she ultimately won’t be able to have her appendix removed for 6-8 weeks until all of the inflammation associated with the rupture has subsided.

For those of you who know our mom, you know she’s self employed as a Massage and Craniosacral therapist, and DJ, and is always on her feet. This whole ordeal means she’ll be out of work most likely for the next month, and then for a short period of time around the surgery to remove the appendix. My sister, brother and I wanted to put this GoFundMe together to help give her some additional funds and peace of mind to support her while she’s out of work and focusing on her recovery and healing. Anything helps and we are so grateful for all of the well wishes, prayers and texts that have come to her over the past few days.
