Support for Joana Mari Narvarte

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Ester and I am organizing this GoFundMe campaign to extend a helping hand to my niece, Joana Mari Narvarte who has End Stage Renal Disease with heart failure. Your generous donations will be directed toward covering medical and basic living expenses for Joana.

Joana Mari is no stranger to tumultuous times as she is, unfortunately, facing familiar territory on her second go-round of End Stage Renal Failure.

She was first diagnosed with ESRD in 2009, when she was only 14 years old. Then in 2013, Joana was able to receive a kidney graciously donated to her by her mother, Marina.

In these past 10 years she has been able to enjoy life, travel parts of the world and has accomplished her educational goals of receiving her Master's degree. She currently practices as a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Professional Clinical Counselor. She thoroughly takes pleasure in working with her patients and their families. She enjoys spending her time with her family, cooking and volunteering for nonprofit organizations.

In June of 2022, she was rushed to the Emergency Department and received the devastating news that she was once again in renal failure. She was immediately started on Peritoneal Dialysis and had to undergo 9 hours of treatment daily.

Joana Mari’s chronic illness of ESRD has been an ongoing struggle. She has had frequent trips to the ED and countless hospital admissions where  she started to become familiar with the ED and healthcare staff. However, in March 2023, her condition worsen and the rest of her body was starting to also show signs of complications related to ESRD. She was told the distressing news that she was also in heart failure. In early April, Joana underwent open heart surgery to repair two heart valves.

The road to recovery has been bumpy because of the added complication of recurring build up of fluid in her left lung which has required many procedures to remove the fluid. She is currently receiving Hemodialysis treatments four times a week.

Despite the immense physical and emotional toll this has all been on Joana, she has remained brave and steadfast to overcome this adversity and even hopes to one day fulfill her dream of obtaining her doctorate degree.

On behalf of Joana and her family, we are humbled and eternally grateful for all your prayers, kindness, and generous contributions for Joana. Your outpouring love and support means the world to Joana and us. Thank you!

Update:
We also have a dinner fundraiser on August 28 in Lodi, CA if anyone is able to attended.

Update #2:

A special thank you to Mr. Joey Travolta and Inclusion Films for donating their time and talent to help us tell Joana’s story.
